Professor's Edge
Throughout my career, I have helped family and friends apply to outstanding undergraduate and professional schools. My goal has always been to encourage these applicants to demonstrate clearly, thoughtfully, and, most importantly, in their own voices, why the institutions they wish to attend should admit them. My track record is excellent. I have helped applicants gain the opportunity to study, as undergraduates and as professional students, at public and private colleges and universities that truly excite them.
Many college-admissions advisors began their careers as admissions officers in various colleges or universities. My background is different. I have been a lawyer for twenty-five years and a law professor for twenty years. As a law professor, I have spent my career writing, editing, and, of course, teaching. I have published books, major academic articles, encyclopedia entries, and op eds. (For more on my teaching career and my publications, please click the 'My Story" button at the top of the page.)
I love my teaching career because it allows me to help young men and women accomplish their career goals. I also greatly enjoy helping high school students achieve the wonderful goal of studying at a college or university of their choice. To ensure the individualized attention each applicant deserves, I will accept a small number of students to work with as a college-admissions consultant each year.
I would be pleased to discuss my services with you.
A successful application has to come from the student. My role has been to encourage applicants to most effectively reveal who they are, what they are passionate about, and how their life experiences have affected them in ways that matter to the institutions they wish to attend. As a professor, I have spent many years teaching students how to express themselves with clarity and precision, both verbally and in writing. (For more information on the services that I provide, please click on the "My Services" button at the top of the page.)
I am most interested in ensuring that students attend the school that best serves their long-term goals, and I will help them to devise an appropriate and personalized list of colleges and universities. What distinguishes me from most college-admissions consultants is my focus on encouraging students to most effectively present themselves through their application essays.
The admissions process at desirable colleges and universities is increasingly competitive. Several institutions could admit multiple qualified freshman classes from each year's applicant pool. Distinguishing who is and who is not admitted goes beyond grades and test scores.
Admissions officers care deeply that admitted students hold the promise of becoming outstanding life-long ambassadors for their schools. In the admissions process, student essays are among the most important vehicles informing these judgments.
I am available to meet in person or to speak by telephone or Skype. I offer a menu of consulting services, with varying fees, and I can tailor a program to match your student's needs.
